Who's got time for Degenerate Press?
EAR PLUGS
Between apartment hunting and covering stuff for the Loafing, Degenerate Press has been ignored lately. Sorry, but life is busy at the moment. The Loafing gig ends in a couple of weeks, from what I understand, and eventually I'll find an apartment and get moved and life will settle into a new routine that will likely include more DP efforts. (Crap, if you know your porn lingo that sounds bad.)
This weekend I hit the Earl, which I didn't want to include in the Loafing article as I'm trying to avoid covering the same venues over and over in that publication, so I saved my thoughts for you, my loyal readers. (You are loyal, right? You do READ this, right?!?)
Soft Collision was on stage when degenerate CD and I arrived. They have sort of a Sonic Youth sound - rock that changes almost at random - with a female lead who's voice is deep and could be strong if she didn't seem so uncertain of herself. There was something there I couldn't quite put my finger on that I just didn't like. But if you're into that art school kind of noise influeced rock, you might like 'em.
Hot Young Priest were headlining in celebration of the CD release. Mary's voice has all the confidence lacking in Soft Collision's performance and they have the ability to go from quiet to chord-cranking, straight-ahead rock without any flowery or noddly nonesense.
(Even Jeff Clark, the only man in town who's more of a curmudgeon than me, tapped his toes and occasionally even smiled during the performance.)
I took a bunch of pictures but I doubt I'll have time to put 'em online any time soon. If you miss your old Degenerate Press postings, help us find a new HQ. See the classifieds for details.

SPORTS
Sunday was the monthly Atlanta Rollergirls match, The Mother's Day Massacre, with the Denim Demons taking on the Sake Tuyas. "Massacre" is the only word for it as the Sake Tuyas outscored the Demons something like 86-46. This guarantees a spot in the finals for the Sake Tuyas.
Between bouts we enjoyed the garage stylings of The Butchers from Lancaster, PA. I'd seen them perform at a Drive Invasion some time ago. Skilled guitar playing but every tune seemed to have the exact same chords and structure so a little of it went a long way.
Next month it's the league's newest team, Toxic Shocks, taking on my favorite, The Apocolypstix.
In other sports news, anyone got a local TV schedule for World Cup Soccer?
Speaking of, here's last week’s Loafing effort:

No, I don't understand the title either. The editor changed it from my suggested title and I can't figure it out at all.

AUTOMOTIVATIONAL
Who'da thunk it?
Stressed Miami drivers speed, tailgate and cut off other drivers so frequently that the city earned the title of worst road rage in a survey released Tuesday. AutoVantage, an automobile membership club offering travel services and roadside assistance, also listed Phoenix, Arizona; New York; Los Angeles, California; and Boston, Massachusetts, among the top five cities for rude driving.
Minneapolis, Minnesota; Nashville, Tennessee; St. Louis, Missouri; Seattle, Washington; and Atlanta, Georgia, were rated as the cities with the most courteous drivers, who were less likely to change lanes without signaling or swear at other motorists.

hehehe, just this morning/yesterday evening they found a gator with girly body parts inside! hehehe...i had no idea how prominent they were down herewhen i moved here...a couple of weeks ago one ran across the highway in front of me, i swear he was grinning and tap dancing! i was so excited i called my mom and two friends to tell them about it...they all think i'm either lame or crazy. it was my first live wild gator siting, i'm on a mission to see lots of them! (but not get eaten)

glad to hear you're adjusting to things alright. and it's an open invitation if you ever want to come down and gator watch with me!

Sure sounds like a euphemism for something else - something I'd love to come down and do with you. But I'll have to get moved and settled and figure out how much income I've got first. I absolutely intend to gator watch with you this summer or fall!
